Kamala Harris

 Kamala Devi Harris (born October 20, 1964) was an American lawyer, politician, and the current vice president of United States. Kamala Devi Harris is the first female vice president and the highest-ranking female official in U.S. history, as well as the first African American and first Asian American vice president. She is a member of Congress and a former US senator who represents California. Harris was born in Oakland, California. She graduated from Howard University as well as the University of California Hastings College of the Law. Harris began her career with the Alameda County District Attorney's Office. Harris was later appointed to the San Francisco District Attorney's Office. In 2003 she was appointed district attorney for San Francisco. She was elected Attorney general of California in 2010. In 2014, she won re-election. Harris served as the junior United States Senator from California between 2017 until 2021. Harris defeated Loretta Martinez in 2016's Senate election to become the 2nd African American woman and first South Asian American senator to be elected to the United States Senate. As a senator, she advocated for healthcare reform, federal de-scheduling of cannabis, a path towards citizenship for immigrants without a legal status and the DREAM Act, a ban on assault weapons, as well as progressive tax reform. Her sharp questioning of Trump officials during Senate hearings has earned her national attention, including the second Supreme Court nominee, Brett Kavanaugh, who was charged with sexual assault.
